Pregnancy changes a whole lot of things. For Linda Ikeji it includes saying goodbye to her famous N500m Banana Island mansion

When Linda first revealed she was pregnant for her mystery man, many didn't realise it will mean her saying goodbye to a lot of things. Asides the cravings which have most likely, changed her appetite, Ikeji who is going to be a mum any moment from now is also saying goodbye to her Banana Island mansion. The same mansion which has been used as a symbol of inspiration for many young girls who have identified Linda as their role model. In a recent post shared on Instagram, the mum-to-be hinted she will be exiting the house, even though she's not ready.

Sources have claimed she will be moving into her baby daddy's house which many of her fans are hoping is a mansion as well, for her sake.

In the post, Linda also revealed she has gone into crying mode as she still feels emotionally attached to the house and will now have to move out. She also shared photos from the massive house, letting fans see just how well she was living.

Although Linda proved a lot of points when she splashed half a billion naira on the mansion in 2016, she has only lived in it for two years and will now be moving out. It is unclear whether the expecting mother will sell the house off or leave it empty as she adjusts her billion naira lifestyle into a possibly, smaller house with her baby daddy.

IS THIS A BROTHERLY WAR???

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday disclosed how the then Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon restrained the federal troops from killing Igbo during the civil war.

Buhari said he was among the commanders in the frontline who received specific orders to treat the Igbos as brothers

Can this be the brotherly love? Operation phyton dance love and crocodile tears love.

One UN peacekeeper killed, seven wounded in C. Africa ambush

A UN peacekeeper from Tanzania was killed and seven others wounded when their patrol was ambushed by gunmen in the Central African Republic, UN officials said Monday.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said gunmen believed to be from the Siriri militia attacked the UN patrol on Sunday in the village of Dilapoko in southwest Mambere-Kadei prefecture.

One of the wounded peacekeepers is in critical condition at a Bangui hospital while three others were seriously wounded, he added.

Three other peacekeepers from the MINUSCA mission are being treated in the local town of Berberati.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned the attack, which brings to four the number of peacekeepers killed in the Central African Republic this year.

MINUSCA has 12,000 troops and police deployed in the impoverished country, which has been struggling since it exploded into bloodshed after the 2013 overthrow of longtime leader Francois Bozize.

CAR President Faustin-Archange Touadera governs with the support of the large UN peacekeeping operation, yet can only claim to control a fraction of the country.

According to Moshood, Saraki will be interrogated over his relationship with the suspects arrested in connection with the robbery

Super Eagles legend Kanu robbed in Russia

Former Super Eagles player, Kanu Nwankwo has been robbed in Russia, the host country for the 2018 World Cup.

The former Arsenal star was robbed of $11,000 when he flew in from London through Moscow to Kaliningrad, where the Super Eagles play their first game against Croatia on June 16.

The money was reported missing from his luggage when he arrived at Kaliningrad.

According to the Associated Press, Police spokeswoman Irina Volk says two baggage handlers at Sheremetevo airport in Moscow have been detained on suspicion of theft.

Kanu played in three World Cups for the Super Eagles featuring in the 1998, 2002 and 2010 World Cups.

Pope calls for dialogue as Nicaragua violence escalates

Pope Francis called Sunday for dialogue in Nicaragua after new clashes killed at least seven people, the latest bloodshed in weeks of anti-government protests that have left more than 100 dead.

The Church has tried to mediate the crisis in the Central American country, but called off peace talks with President Daniel Ortega’s government last week after a march led by victims’ mothers was met with gunfire, killing at least 16 people.

Violence erupted again Saturday, as protesters fired homemade mortars to fend off police crackdowns in the cities of Masaya and Tipitapa, both near the capital Managua.

The new unrest left at least seven people dead, including a US citizen reportedly killed by a pro-government mob in a separate incident in Managua, according to rights groups.

“I am united with my brother bishops in Nicaragua and their grief over violence committed by armed groups,” the pope said at the Vatican.

“The Church is always in favor of dialogue, but for that it requires an active commitment to respect freedom and, above all, life.”

At Mass in Managua’s Metropolitan Cathedral, Father Luis Herrera said he was praying for the victims of “police repression.”

The violence has now claimed 110 lives since it erupted on April 18, according to the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights.

The government said in a statement it was “absolutely willing to continue working for dialogue, justice and democracy.”

Church caught in crossfire
The Nicaraguan Bishops’ Conference aborted its attempt to mediate the conflict after the deadly crackdown on Wednesday’s Mother’s Day march, saying dialogue was impossible as long as “the people continue to be repressed and killed” by “groups close to the government.”

The Catholic Church has been increasingly caught up in the conflict.

On Saturday, Silvio Jose Baez, the auxiliary bishop of Managua, warned residents of flashpoint city Masaya to stay indoors over reports of pro-government snipers shooting people in the street.

A church in central Masaya later opened its doors to give refuge and medical care to 21 residents who had been detained and reportedly abused by police.

The Church and the Nicaraguan Association for the Protection of Human Rights (ANPDH) obtained the release of 11 more detainees Sunday. Most had clearly been beaten.

“I’m just a paramedic,” said one young woman who declined to give her name, adding that she had been arbitrarily arrested and beaten in Masaya.

“They beat my son all over, on his stomach, on his head,” said a sobbing Antonia Gonzalez, whose 25-year-old son Luis was one of those detained, on what his family called fabricated looting charges.

Cardinal emeritus dies
Ortega, who has dominated Nicaraguan politics for the past four decades, had been seen as close to the Church in recent years.

One of his key allies, cardinal emeritus Miguel Obando, died Sunday at age 92.

Obando and Ortega had a love-hate relationship stretching back to the 1970s.

Obando, like the president, was a sharp critic of dictator Anastasio Somoza, who was ousted by Ortega’s Sandinista guerrilla army in 1979.

He later turned his criticism on the newly installed Sandinista junta led by Ortega, criticizing its communist ideology, alleged human rights violations and vision of a “people’s church” based on leftist liberation theology.

But as Ortega — who lost the presidency in a 1990 election — charted his eventual return to power in 2007, he courted the cardinal’s favor with a mix of progressive social policy and support for a total abortion ban.

Obando even presided over Ortega’s 2005 wedding to his current vice president, Rosario Murillo.

Former bastion
But the Catholic Church has distanced itself from Ortega over the crackdown.

The church in Masaya has sheltered opposition supporters from attacks by riot police and pro-government paramilitaries, and church bells are the warning signal residents use when security forces arrive.

Once a Sandinista bastion, the city of just over 100,000 people looked like a war zone Sunday.

Residents have put up barricades to keep out riot police and protect themselves from what they say are police and paramilitary snipers.

Ortega, whose third consecutive term is due to end in 2022, denies his forces are killing protesters. His government accuses “right-wing groups” of conspiring to “terrorize” the country.

Guatemala volcano eruption kills 25

At least 25 people were killed when Guatemala's Fuego volcano erupted Sunday, belching ash and rock and forcing the capital's main airport to close.

The volcano expelled hot muddy material that caused the deaths -- including of several children -- in the El Rodeo and Las Lajas communities located on its southern slope, disaster agency spokesman David de Leon said in a WhatsApp group.

Search and rescue operations for the missing and dead have been suspended due to low light and dangerous conditions, and will resume early on Monday morning, he said.

The eruption of the 3,763-meter (12,346-foot) volcano sent ash billowing over the surrounding area, turning plants and trees gray and blanketing streets, cars and people.

Farmers covered in ash fled for their lives as civil defense staffers tried to relocate them to shelters during the event.

National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) chief Sergio Cabanas said earlier that the eruption also left 20 injured and affected more than 1.7 million people.

President Jimmy Morales announced a red alert for Escuintla, Chimaltenango and Sacatepequez, the areas most affected by the eruption, and an orange alert throughout the country.

The president said he and his government would determine whether to ask Congress to declare a state of emergency in the areas, while at the same time appealing to the population for calm.

Death toll may rise
Hundreds of personnel from the police, Red Cross and military have been dispatched to support emergency operations, Morales said.

Cabanas said that the dead included a civil protection official.

More than 3,000 people were evacuated due to the eruption, which affected rural communities around the volcano as well as Antigua Guatemala, a colonial-era town very popular with tourists in the Central American country, he said.

Cabanas did not rule out the number of dead increasing, as there are "missing persons, but we do not know how many."

Dense ash blasted out by the volcano shut down Guatemala City's international airport, civil aviation said.

People were working to clean ash off the runways to get the airport operating again.

The eruption is the second major one this year from the peak, following another that subsided at the beginning of February after sending ash towering 1.7 kilometers into the sky.

A September 2012 eruption of the volcano saw 10,000 people evacuated, while another in February 2015 forced the closure of the capital's main airport.

Apart from the Fuego volcano, there are two other active volcanos in Guatemala. One of them, Pacaya, is just 20 kilometers from Guatemala City.

BBNaija 2018: Tobi opens up on leaked nude picture with Alex

Former Brother Naija 2018 housemate, Tobi Bakre, has reacted to a “leaked nude picture” of him and Alex in bed.

Tobi told Punch: “I don’t know of any picture. There are usually a lot of things written about me online; so, I don’t usually have the time to keep up or comment on things I don’t know about.”

“Nothing has changed about my relationship with Alex. We are still good friends; that’s what it is and that’s what it will always be. I know that media usually links our name together but right now, I am focused on work.

“I am still close to former housemates that I see regularly such as Miracle and Alex. I only see Teddy A and Bambam once in a while but it’s all good vibes with everybody.”

On lesson he learnt upon leaving the Big Brother house, Tobi said, “Within two months that I got out of the house, I have learnt several things and I try to stay around people with positive energy. I have learnt to keep my personal life private.

”It’s not everything about you that the world has to know. Fame can be gone at anytime. While you’re out there, try to add value and impact the lives of people; let people know what you stand for.

“Of course, I want to entertain people, but I also want to make impact on the world. I believe I should be able to inspire people out there and teach them some life lessons.”

Philippines’ Duterte tells UN expert to ‘go to hell’

President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday told a United Nations rights expert to “go to hell” over criticism of the Philippine leader for threatening the country’s top judge.

Duterte’s latest profanity-laced diatribe came after Diego Garcia-Sayan, the UN special rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, said the president’s statements against former chief justice Maria Lourdes Sereno were a “vicious attack” on the judiciary

Sereno’s colleagues voted to remove her from office last month, shortly after Duterte openly called her his “enemy” and demanded her swift ouster.

Tell him (Garcia-Sayan) not to interfere with the affairs of my country. He can go to hell,” Duterte told reporters in Manila, insisting he had nothing to do with Sereno’s dismissal.

“He is not a special person and I do not recognise his rapporteur title.”

Duterte, 73, has lashed out in the past — often using less-than-parliamentary language — at critics of the deadly drug war he launched soon after coming to power in 2016.

Several of his opponents have since been ousted, punished or threatened.

Police say they have killed 4,279 drug suspects in the anti-narcotics campaign but rights groups believe the actual number is three times higher.

Sereno was one of the few remaining high-profile critics of the crackdown at the time of her ouster.

The UN’s Garcia-Sayan said Friday that Duterte’s public threats against Sereno appeared to have had a “chilling effect” on her colleagues in the judiciary.

“The use of such derogatory language… sends a clear message to all judges of the Philippines: in the so-called ‘war on drugs’, you’re either with me or against me,” Garcia-Sayan said.

Eagles lack quality going to Russia, says Eguavoen

Former Super Eagles coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has stated that the team assembled by Coach Gernot Rohr is deficient for the World Cup, slated to start on June 14, in Russia.

The Eagles will begin their campaign in Group D in an opening match against Croatia on June 16. The three-time African champion will then meet Iceland and Argentina in their last group game.

Speaking to The Guardian at the finals of the MRS Kids Cup Competition, as one of the special guests that included former international, Peter Rufai, Eguavoen hopes Eagles win the World Cup in Russia but doubts the team’s depth, let alone Winning

“As I always say, a team’s first game will determine how far it can go at a tournament. If we can win our first game, I am sure we can get to the quarterfinals. But if we don’t win the first match, the question is do we have the character to come back? That I can’t say.

“Some big countries bounce back when they lose their first game, but for small countries, it can be a bit difficult.

Let’s see how it goes because none of the teams would have settled down at the start of their first game.

And if we can unsettle the Croatians, it might go a long way in giving us confidence to prosecute other games,” he said.

“A quarterfinal berth will be a good feat for us, but I am not pleased with the players we would have on the bench because we only have 13 to 14 key players, who I think can fully represent us well… My prayer is that we don’t have injuries and also that Moses Simon makes the team to the World Cup.

He is such an exciting player to watch and the nation needs his service at the World Cup,” he stated.

Three Lions beat Super Eagles in international friendly

Chelsea’s defender Gary Cahill celebrated his return to England’s squad and stepped up his claims for a starting place against Tunisia in Volgograd on June 18 by opening scoring in yesterday’s friendly against Nigeria, with a powerful header after only seven minutes.

England’s total first-half domination was emphasised when captain Harry Kane scored his eighth goal in his last seven appearances six minutes before the interval when Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho allowed his 18-yard shot to slip in.

Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi gave thousands of Nigerian fans inside Wembley hope two minutes after the break with a crisp finish, but England, who had Raheem Sterling booked for diving, closed out the victory in relatively untroubled fashion.

Sterling went close to scoring in the first half but was later booked for diving. He dominated headlines and the build-up to the friendly after he was pictured sporting a tattoo of a gun on his leg and revelations about his late arrival for England’s pre-World Cup training camp when they assembled earlier this month.

The Manchester City forward, whose name was warmly greeted by England’s fans when it was announced, formed a lively partnership with Kane, but it was also a day of frustration for him.

Erdogan says Uber ‘finished’ in Turkey

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the ride hailing app Uber is “finished” in Turkey, following intense pressure from Istanbul taxi drivers for the service to be banned.Erdogan’s comments, in a late night speech Friday in Istanbul, came after the government agreed new rules that are expected to severely complicate Uber’s operations in Turkey.

Drivers of Istanbul’s yellow taxis have over the last months waged an intense campaign to have Uber banned, saying the company is eating into their business without having a proper legal basis for work.

“This thing emerged called Uber or Muber or whatever,” said Erdogan. “But this issue is now finished. It’s over now.””Our Prime Minister (Binali Yildirim) made the announcement. We have our system of taxis,” he added

Yildirim’s government last month issued a directive sharply hiking fines and threatened blacklisting for companies whose vehicles illegally work as taxis.

The official taxi drivers association said at the time the measure would be a major threat to Uber, if it was properly enforced by the traffic police.

Erdogan said that while Uber may be popular in some European countries, Turkey was different.

“Why did it (Uber) emerge? Because it was in Europe. But what is Europe to me? We will take the decision ourselves.”

His comments come three weeks ahead of keenly-contested presidential and parliamentary elections. Many Istanbul taxi drivers — though not all — are strong Erdogan supporters and the main taxi associations back him

The 17,400 official yellow taxis in Istanbul are a pillar of the city’s often patchy transport system, but critics say that poor quality service and overcharging have given Uber an opportunity.

The yellow taxi drivers, on the other hand, slam Uber as “pirates” who are swallowing their incomes in an already tight market.

Uber has said it is committed to working in Turkey and insisted it is operating within the law

We want to work in cooperation with all the relevant stakeholders to improve transportation options in Turkey and we are committed long-term to Turkey, to the end, as a loyal partner,” it said in a rare Turkish statement this week.

The tension in Turkey is one of a number of headaches for Uber and its new chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi, who took over last August after founder Travis Kalanick was ousted following a series of scandals.

UPDATE: Ekiti APC shooting misfire from mobile policeman

What was first misunderstood as a deliberate shooting at the APC Secretariat on Ajilosun area of Ado Ekiti on Friday turned out to be an alleged mishandling of firearms by a yet-to-be identified mobile policeman, who was said to be “over protecting” some VIPs shortly after the end of the rally.

Journalists had hardly left the rally venue when sporadic gun fire were heard, leading to many scampering for safety in different directions.

The gunshots strayed in all directions, mostly towards the ground. In the process, one of the APC aspirants, Opeyemi Michael Bamidele (MOB) was hit in his arm, while one yet to be identified person was also hit.

It was further gathered that the mobile policeman who allegedly mishandled his gun was protecting some of VIPs who were almost mobbed by a crowd demanding money from them.

An eyewitness said: “The mobile policeman, in his effort to protect the VIPs, was using his gun to push away the crowd; some members of the crowd got annoyed and dragged the gun with him. It was then he shot sporadically in the air, to scare them away.”

Another eye witness said: “The mobile policeman in question who allegedly mishandled his gun was mobbed by angry party members who eventually disarmed him. He was said to have been behaving funny earlier in the day, leading to some of his colleagues urging him to surrender his weapon. Some had even alleged that he was probably drunk.”

Meanwhile, the yet to be identified mobile policeman was terribly beaten by the angry, and is feared dead.
