Ukraine bans Russian men from entering country amid invasion fears

Ukraine has banned Russian men aged between 16 and 60 from entering the country, amid fears Moscow is planning an invasion.

Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko said the restrictions have been imposed to prevent Russians from forming "private armies" in his country.

Moscow has been supporting Russian separatists in the east of the country with troops and weapons.

Mr Poroshenko also told Sky News he has evidence that Russian tanks are massing along his country's border.

Ukraine imposed martial law earlier this week following an escalation in the long-simmering conflict between the two nations over Crimea, which Moscow seized in 2014.

In a violent confrontation, Russian border guards fired on and captured three Ukrainian ships in the Black Sea.

The Ukrainian vessels had been trying to pass through the Kerch Strait on their way to the Sea of Azov.

The latest crisis led US President Donald Trump to cancel a meeting with Russia's Vladimir Putin at a summit of world leaders in Argentina.

Mr Trump said it would not be appropriate as Moscow had still not released the 24 crew members of the seized vessels.

A Crimea court has ruled that the sailors will be detained for two months pending the outcome of an investigation.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian intelligence officers have been searching the home of the the head of Kiev's largest and oldest monastery, which is part of the Russian Orthodox Church.

George Bush inspired generations of Americans, Trump mourns ex-president

The Republican served as commander-in-chief from 1989 to 1993 and eight years later watched his son also become the country's leader.

Mr Bush Snr was a Second World War hero, Texas congressman, UN ambassador, CIA director, and Ronald Reagan's vice-president between 1981 and 1989.
Family spokesman Jim McGrath said the 41st president died shortly after 10pm on Friday.

George Herbert Walker Bush, who served one term as US leader, is survived by five children and their spouses, 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, as well as two siblings.

George W Bush, who was the 43rd president, issued a statement following his father's death.

In it, he said: "Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Doro, and I are saddened to announce that after 94 remarkable years, our dear Dad has died.

"George HW Bush was a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for."

"The entire Bush family is deeply grateful for 41's life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens," he added, referring to Mr Bush's nickname.

The longest living president in US history, one of his biggest achievements was steering America through the end of the Cold War.

He also saw his popularity swell with America's success in the 1990-1991 Gulf War, where US and coalition forces liberated Kuwait from Iraqi control following an air and brief ground campaign.

A short but deep recession saw his popularity evaporate, costing him a second term in office.

He was also haunted by his decision to break a stern, solemn vow he made to voters: "Read my lips. No new taxes."

Mr Bush was succeeded by Democrat Bill Clinton.

His death comes less than eight months after his wife Barbara died. They had been married for 73 years.

The day after her death, Mr Bush was taken to hospital with a blood infection. He continued to suffer with ill-health during the following months.

George Bush Snr was visited by former president Barack Obama two days ago, according to the family's spokesman.

"President @GeorgeHWBush was very pleased to receive President @BarackObama this afternoon during his visit to #Houston. The two had a very pleasant and private visit at the Bush residence, where they rekindled what was already a very warm friendship," Jim McGrath tweeted.

As news of the statesman's death broke, the Obamas issued a statement, saying: "America has lost a patriot and humble servant in George Herbert Walker Bush. While our hearts are heavy today, they are also filled with gratitude.

"Not merely for the years he spent as our forty-first President, but for the more than 70 years he spent in devoted service to the country he loved - from a decorated Naval aviator who nearly gave his life in World War II, to commander-in-chief of our Armed Forces, with plenty of posts along the way."

They added: "Our thoughts are with the entire Bush family tonight - and all who were inspired by George and Barbara's example."

Mr Bush had vascular parkinsonism, a form of Parkinson's disease, and used a wheelchair or motorised scooter for the last six years of his life.

Mr Bush was also vice president of the United States from 1981 to 1989.

During the Second World War, he became the youngest naval pilot at the age of 18 following Japan's attack on Pearl Harbour.

He flew combat missions from the aircraft carrier USS San Jacinto and won the Distinguished Flying Cross.

In 1944, he was shot down over the Pacific and after desperately paddling his life raft away from a Japanese island and with enemy boats sent out to capture him, he was rescued by a US submarine.

Saudi officials refuse to address journalists who stormed Abuja embassy over Khashoggi

Some journalists and civil society organisations (CSO) on Friday stormed the embassy of Saudi Arabia in Abuja to protest the death of Jamal Khashoggi, a journalist, killed in Turkey.

Khashoggi was last seen on October 2 when he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey. He was allegedly killed on the orders of the Saudi government.

At the embassy, journalists and members of the CSOs held placards which read: ‘Protect journalists’, ‘Justice for Jamal Ahmad Khashoggi’ among others.

No official of the embassy addressed the protesters.

Speaking at the event, Peter Nkanga, a co-convener of the Coalition of Nigerian Media and Civil Society Groups, said no human being should be made to face “such a bestial death.”

“Jamal Kashoogi’s blood is crying for justice and that is why we are here. We are here to tell the Saudi government that injury to one is injury to all,” he said.

“His life and death would never be in vain. His blood will keep speaking for generations to come. His legacy will remain forever.

“We are here to demand only one thing from the King and the crown prince of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the person or persons who gave the order for the bestial murder and those who carried out the murder, all of them must be brought to book.

“The second reason why we are here is in memory of our own Nigerian journalists who have been killed in the line of duty and in total impunity, just as we call on the Saudi government, so also we call on the Nigerian government to put an end to the impunity for crime against journalists.

“The United Nations set aside November 2 that means the world has taken notice crimes against journalists. And we are here in solidarity with that call. This month in October 32 years ago, we still remember the murder of Journalist, Dele Giwa, killed in a letter parcel bomb delivered to him on 19 October 1986. That case is marked on government’s conspiracy.

“We are here to tell the Nigerian government to take into account that in 32 years since Dele Giwa’s murder, countless other assassinations have occurred and have remained inconclusive. We therefore call on the president to order the reopening, impartial and transparent investigation into the murder of all journalists killed in the country and ensure their killers don’t go unpunished.”

Khashoggi: Nigerian journalists, CSOs protest at Saudi embassy

A group of media rights activists on Friday protested at the Saudi Arabian embassy in Abuja to demand justice over the gruesome murder of Saudi journalist, Jamal Khashoggi.

Mr Khashoggi was assassinated on October 2 at the Saudi Arabian consulate in Turkey when he had gone to receive some documents for his planned marriage.

A team of assassins were reported to have flown into Turkey from Saudi Arabia to kill Mr Khashoggi.

The journalist had departed Saudi Arabia, his country, for the United States, following growing fears about his safety, but was killed in what has been described by officials as premeditated murder.

Mr Khashoggi’s death has drawn wide criticism on the Saudi Arabian monarchy, especially the country’s crown prince, Mohammed Bin Salman, who is accused of ordering the attack.

On Friday, in Abuja, activists under the platform of the Coalition of Nigerian Media and Civil Society Groups demanded justice for Mr Khashoggi. They also asked the Nigerian government to re-open similar cases of journalists murdered by suspected government officials across the country.

According to a statement signed by Peter Nkanga and Chido Onuma, the group urged Saudi Arabian citizens to understand that they deserve better than what they described as “a blood thirsty leadership.”

“With deep grief and greatest sorrow in memory of journalists killed in Nigeria and around the world, the Coalition of Nigerian Media and Civil Society Groups are gathered here to make three statements:

“First, we are gathered here to commiserate with the family and friends of journalist, Jamal Ahmad Khashoggi, and the good people of Saudi Arabia.

“We are gathered here to tell the people of Saudi Arabia that you deserve better. You deserve better than a blood thirsty government that kills its citizens at will, and with total impunity.

“No human being should ever have to face such a bestial death. Jamal did not deserve to die, let alone in the one place where he should have felt safest in a foreign land – the Saudi Arabia Consulate.

“Let us think about it critically. Do we know how many people have died in similar circumstances at Saudi Embassies and Consulates around the world? Jamal Khashoggi’s blood is crying for Justice!”

The group said the protest is to prove to the world that Mr Khashoggi’s murder is a crime against the world.

“And that is why we are gathered here, to tell the Saudi government that injury to one is injury to all. The world abhors the evil perpetrated against Jamal. We are here to say Jamal’s life and death will never be in vain. His blood will keep speaking for generations to come and his legacy will forever remain.

“We are here to demand only one thing from the King and the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia:

“The person(s) who gave the order for the bestial murder of journalist, Jamal Ahmad Khashoggi, and the person(s) who carried the order, All of them MUST be brought to account.

“The second reason we are gathered here is in memory of our own Nigerian journalists, too many killed in the line of duty, and in total impunity.

“Just as we call on the Saudi government, so also, we call on the Nigerian government to put an end to impunity for crimes against journalists.”

The group also recalled the death of late Nigerian journalist, Dele Giwa.
“This month, 32 years ago, we still remember the murder of journalist, Dele Giwa, killed via a parcel bomb delivered to him on October 19, 1986. That case smacks of government conspiracy.

“We are here to tell the Nigerian government to take into account that in 32 years since Dele Giwa’s assassination, countless murders of journalists have occurred, and not one has been conclusive to bring the perpetrators to justice. We therefore call on Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, to do what any conscionable government would do:
Order the reopening of impartial, independent, and transparent investigations into the murders of all journalists killed in the country and ensure their killers don’t go unpunished.

“When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes a duty! The call was sounded, even on short notice, yet we all turned up and decided to take action to defend our civil rights,” the group said.

Turkey’s Erdogan Issues ‘Final Warning’ On Syria

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Friday issued what he said was a “final warning” to those who would endanger Turkey’s borders, saying Ankara was determined to focus its attention on Syrian Kurdish fighters east of the Euphrates.

Erdogan, who was speaking to a group of provincial leaders of his AK Party in Ankara, said Turkey would focus its attention east of the Euphrates in Syria, rather than the Manbij area, citing the presence of the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia. Turkey regards the YPG as a terrorist group.

Ekiti govt seals buildings linked to ex-Gov Fayose

Two buildings in Ado Ekiti linked to the immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose, have been sealed off by the state government for lack of approved plan and permit. The state government, through the Ministry of Housing and Physical Planning and Urban Development, said the erection of the buildings contravened the laws guiding urban renewal regulations of the state government. Fayose is currently being tried at the Federal High Court, Lagos, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged reception of a sum of N2.99 billion from the office of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki , to fund his reelection in 2014. He is presently being detained at the EFCC custody in Ikoyi, Lagos State despite that he had been granted bail since Wednesday. The sprawling twin duplexes with elevated fence, covering over six plots, were located at the Government Reservation Area (GRA) in Ado Ekiti and almost adjacent the new Deputy Governor’s lodge located within the Government house. When journalists visited the building on Friday, the gate to the building was under lock and key while contractors working on the buildings have deserted the place. A paper dated October 18, which was attached to the gate and signed by the Director of Urban and Regional Planning in the Ministry said: “It was discovered during inspection by the inspectorate staff of our Ministry that a residential building by you at GRA has no approved plan /permit for the site or bring same to our office to get certification for the erection. “You are hereby ordered to suspend the use of the building premises until approved plan is submitted for clearance”, it stated. The contractor handling the project began work about four months ago after the buildings erected on the plot were pulled down to give way for the new edifices. Before Fayose exited office, rumour had been rife that he was the owner of the magnificent buildings. In his response, Fayose accused Fayemi of embarking on vindictive action over issue that doesn’t worth government’s attention. In a statement by his Media Aide, Idowu Adelusi on Friday, Fayose said: “Governor Fayemi was only acting out of desperation and vengeance over the 2014 shameful electoral defeat. “The property in question does not belong to Fayose. Fayemi’s government should produce evidence linking the former government to the property. “Fayose has said he was ready for probe and that he will appear in person before any panel set up by Fayemi, so, why the desperation? “Our advice is that, Fayemi should place high premium on payment of the workers’ salary arrears since N30 billion is already in his custody released by the Federal Government and not embarking on witch hunting or disparaging his predecessor. The money should not be used to fund the election petition filed against him. “He should hurry up to do all he could for the benefit of common Ekiti people because time is not on his side”, Fayose advised.

[BREAKING] Missing General: Village Head, others surrender to police

24 hours after being declared wanted by the police over the disappearance of an Army General, Mohammed Idris Alkali (retd), three suspects on Friday voluntarily surrendered themselves to the Plateau State Police Command in Jos.

A source said the other suspects were also ready to surrender themselves but were waiting to see how the persons who already surrendered to the police would be treated.

“The three suspects voluntarily surrendered themselves to the police. If the police detain them, it will be difficult to get the others. But if they are granted bail, be assured that they will all appear before the police by next week,” the source stated.

The suspects who surrendered to the police were the Village Head of Dura-Du District in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, Yakubu Rapp (52); Youth Leader of the community, Matthew Rwang (aka Amesco, 27); and a tipper driver, Timothy Chuwang (26).

They were said to have arrived in the Police Command Headquarters in Jos by 10 am accompanied by the lawyer representing the community, Matthew Godfree.

The suspects were declared wanted after the mysterious disappearance of the former Army Chief of Administration.

Alkali who was said to have disappeared in questionable circumstances was said to have retired a few weeks before he was declared missing on Monday, September 3, 2018, a day after gunmen swooped on Dura-Du and killed about 13 persons

Arrest in Florida in connection with US pipe bombs

A dozen devices have been sent to Democratic politicians and high-profile critics of Trump

Federal authorities made an arrest on Friday in connection with a dozen parcel bombs sent to Democratic politicians and high-profile critics of US President Donald Trump, the US Justice Department said.

A man was taken into custody in the Miami area, a law enforcement official said. Two federal law enforcement officials named the suspect as Cesar Sayoc, born in 1962.

The investigation into this week’s wave of suspicious packages had focused on southern Florida and a mail sorting facility in the area.

No-one had claimed responsibility for parcel bombs, which were denounced by authorities as terrorism and came less than two weeks ahead of US congressional elections that could alter the balance of power in Washington.

Two more suspicious packages were found as US authorities hunted for the sender of a series of devices addressed to prominent critics of Mr Trump.

Packages addressed to New Jersey senator Cory Booker and former National Intelligence director James Clapper were similar in appearance to pipe bombs sent to other prominent Democrats, the FBI said.

They were intercepted as investigators scrambled from coast to coast to locate the culprit and motives behind a bizarre plot aimed at critics of the president.

The discoveries brought to 12 the total number of devices addressed in recent days to Democratic figures including former president Barack Obama, ex-vice president Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton.

The FBI said the package to Mr Booker was intercepted in Florida, and the one discovered at a Manhattan postal facility was addressed to Mr Clapper, care of CNN.

Mr Clapper said he was not surprised to be targeted, and described the mail bombs as “definitely domestic terrorism”.

He described the situation as “serious”, but insisted it was “not going to silence the administration’s critics”.

He stressed that he did not want to suggest any direct link between Mr Trump’s rhetoric and the packages, but the president should bear responsibility for the “coarseness and uncivility of the dialogue in this country”.

An earlier package had been sent to former Obama CIA director John Brennan care of CNN in New York.

Investigators are analysing the crude devices to reveal whether they were intended to detonate or simply sow fear before elections next month.

Law enforcement officials said the devices, containing timers and batteries, were not rigged like booby-trapped package bombs that would explode on opening, but they were uncertain whether the devices were poorly designed or never intended to cause physical harm.

A search of a postal database suggested some may have been mailed from Florida, one official said. Investigators homed in on a postal facility in Opa-locka, where they believe some of the packages originated.

Homeland Security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen acknowledged that some of packages originated in Florida.

New details about the devices came as the mail bomb scare spread nationwide, drawing investigators from dozens of federal, state and local agencies in the effort to identify one or more perpetrators.

The targets have also included CNN and Democrat Maxine Waters ofCalifornia. A common thread is their critical words for Mr Trump and his frequent criticism in return.

The president claimed on Friday that he was being blamed for the mail bombs, complaining in a tweet: “Funny how lowly rated CNN, and others, can criticize me at will, even blaming me for the current spate of Bombs and ridiculously comparing this to September 11th and the Oklahoma Citybombing, yet when I criticize them they go wild and scream, ‘it’s just not Presidential!”’

Details suggested a pattern — that the items were packaged in manila envelopes, addressed to prominent Trump critics and carried US postage stamps. The devices are being examined by technicians at the FBI’s forensic lab in Quantico, Virginia.

The packages stoked nationwide tensions as voters prepare to vote on November 6th to determine control of Congress — a campaign both major political parties have described in near-apocalyptic terms.

Even with the sender still unknown, politicians from both parties used the threats to condemn a toxic political climate and lay blame.

“A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News,” Mr Trump said on Twitter.

“It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!”

Mr Brennan fired back: “Stop blaming others. Look in the mirror. Your inflammatory rhetoric, insults, lies, & encouragement of physical violence are disgraceful. Clean up your act....try to act Presidential.”

Actor Robert De Niro, another target of the packages, said: “There’s something more powerful than bombs, and that’s your vote. People must vote!”

The Oscar-winner said he was glad no-one was hurt, and thanked “the brave and resourceful security and law enforcement people for protecting us”.

He has been one of Mr Trump’s most vocal critics, dropping an expletive insult at this year’s Tony Awards and also apologising to Canadians for the “idiotic behaviour of my president”.

The explosive devices were packed in envelopes with bubble-wrap interiors bearing six American flag stamps and the return address of Florida representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the former chairwoman of theDemocratic National Committee.

The bombs seized on Wednesday were about 6in long and packed with powder and broken glass, according to a law enforcement official who viewed X-ray images. The official said the devices were made from PVC pipe and covered with black tape. – AP

US stocks heading for worst month since the financial crisis

Shares decline on back of disappointing results from tech giants Amazon and Alphabet

The US stock market tumbled into a correction territory on Friday after strong economic data failed to improve souring investor sentiment, with the S&P 500 index heading for its worst month since the financial crisis.

The US economy expanded at an annualised rate of 3.5 per cent in the third quarter, according to an initial reading from the commerce department on Friday, beating economist expectations on the back of strong consumer sentiment.

However, the data did not calm fraying nerves on Wall Street, where investors are concerned about rising interest rates, slowing global growth, international trade tensions and the possibility of corporate profit growth dimming in the coming year.

The latter fear has been exacerbated by the patchy third-quarter results of a handful of bellwether companies this week, such as Caterpillar, and disappointing outlooks from Amazonand Alphabet on Thursday evening.

That sent the S&P 500 down by as much as 2.9 per cent on Friday, once again wiping out the last of this year’s gains and taking the benchmark’s decline from its September 21st peak to over 10 per cent - the typical definition of a correction. The index was down 2.3 per cent by midday in New York.

Meanwhile, US tech stocks - which have been at the heart of the decade-long bull market - are on track for their worst month since the financial crisis.

A cautious outlook from Amazon for the holiday shopping season sent its shares down 8.4 per cent by midday trading in New York, its biggest one-day slump in over four years. Stock in Alphabet, Google’s parent, fell 3.8 per cent. Overall, the Nasdaq Composite fell 3 per cent.

Stunning rally

After a stunning rally that saw the market value of Amazon and Apple, two of the biggest tech companies, vault past the $1 trillion (€0.9 trillion) mark earlier this year, investors have been exiting a trade that was widely seen as one of the most crowded on Wall Street. The Nasdaq, the index that is home to many US technology companies, has lost over 11 per cent in October, leaving it poised for its worst month since November 2008.

Tech stocks had now “begun to underperform, and we think there is more ahead,” strategists at Morgan Stanley noted.

The ending of an era of monetary stimulus from central banks has shifted the ground for investors who have become accustomed to seeing both bonds and equities rise. While third-quarter US earnings have so far exceeded expectations, investors are fearful that the backdrop will now become tougher for corporate America as the global economy slows and the effect of the US stimulus fades.

The Iseq finished flat.

‘Obsessed’ farmer shot neighbour in dispute over right of way

Ted O’Donoghue, (74) admitted firing a shot from his legally-held gun at John Hayes

A farmer who shot and injured a neighbour had “turned into an obsessive fool” over a “festering” dispute about a right of way on his land, a court has heard.

Ted O’Donoghue, (74), has admitted firing a shot from his legally-held shotgun at John Hayes on June 16, 2017, but said he did not mean to harm him.

He pleaded guilty at Limerick Circuit Court to assault causing harm, reckless discharge of a firearm and animal cruelty.

The court heard that as Mr Hayes (66) went to open a gate at a right-of-way on O’Donoghue’s land, he way met by his neighbour holding a shotgun.

O’Donoghue, of Kilmoreen, Kildimo, told Mr Hayes, “you are never coming in here again” before he fired the shotgun.

The shot went through the window of Mr Hayes’s tractor, killing his sheepdog Lassie. Mr Hayes was injured when the same shot grazed his shoulder.

The right of way, at Ballycasey, Kildimo, is located on O’Donoghue’s land, but a number of farmers, including Mr Hayes, use it to gain access to their own lands.

O’Donoghue’s barrister, Anthony Salmon, SC, told his client’s sentencing hearing on Thursday that he had become “obsessed” about the ancient passageway, which the court heard dated back to the “horse and cart” era.

He said O’Donoghue was concerned the laneway was being destroyed by tractors driving on it.

After he was arrested over the shooting, O’Donoghue told gardaí: “They have it tore asunder with tractors...but I’ll stop them.”

The dispute specifically involving the defendant and the victim had gone on for 10 years the court heard. However, one neighbour told gardaí there were issues in the local farming community over the right of way going back “40 years”.

Mr Salmon said his client had “tried to deal with it through solicitors, but he wasn’t getting anywhere with it.”

He said: “It was festering away. It was like an obsession boiling over.”

Mr Salmon described O’Donoghue as “a decent hardworking man” was was now facing serious consequences.

“These disputes have a way of turning right-minded people into obsessive fools. Incidents of a minor nature can become obsessive and overshadow their lives.”

He said O’Donoghue “deeply deeply regrets his actions”.

The defendant told gardaí that, on the morning in question, he saw Mr Hayes heading for the passageway and he “drove up ahead of him”.

“He wanted to open the gate. I blazed at him,” O’Donoghue said.

“I fired a shot at him, and that’s that,” he said. “He was outside the gate, but it’s my land. He shouldn’t have been there. He was trespassing.”

When gardaí asked O’Donoghue if he had deliberately tried to hurt Mr Hayes, he replied: “Not exactly. I don’t know. I don’t think so.”

Mr Salmon stressed that the DPP’s view was, there had been “no intent” to endanger life.

In his victim impact statement, Mr Hayes said he had become withdrawn socially, fearful and stressed. “I was sure he was going to kill me. He had an angry look about him,” he said. “I was terrified.”

Evidence was heard that O’Donoghue had appeared in court in 2016 charged with producing a knife during the course of a dispute with the son of another neighbour. At the time, he escaped a conviction after the court applied the Probation Act.

O’Donoghue is facing up to five years in jail in relation to the shooting charge, as well as a possible fine of up to €250,000 for the animal cruelty offence.

Mr Hayes has begun civil proceedings against O’Donoghue, the court heard.

Judge Tom O’Donnell said he needed to consider the evidence carefully and remanded O’Donoghue on continuing bail to appear before Limerick Circuit Court for sentencing on December 19th.

Robber tipped taxi-driver who drove him to and from raid, court hears

Dean Gray (30) to be sentenced next month for spate of shop raids in Dublin

A robber who tipped a taxi driver who had “unwittingly” driven him to and from the crime scene will be sentenced later for a spate of shop raids.

The court heard the taxi man had driven Dean Gray (30) to a number of locations, including XL Fintstones,Baldoyle, Dublin, and that the fare had come to €64.

Detective Garda Darren Burke said Gray went into the shop with his face uncovered, pulled out a “small fishing-type knife” and robbed €350. He then returned to the waiting taxi and handed the driver €70 to cover the fare.

Det Gda Burke said gardaí later obtained CCTV footage and fingerprints from the store and a statement from the taxi driver who had “unwittingly” driven Gray to the scene.

Gray, of Buttercup Drive, Darndale, Dublin came forward on signed pleas of guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to robbery and production of a knife at the shop on May 21st, 2017.

He affirmed signed guilty pleas to robbing €425 using a screwdriver from Petmania, Gulliver’s Retail Park, Northwood, Dublin, on March 17th, 2018.

He also affirmed signed guilty pleas to robbing €200 from tanning salon Tan Me on New Cabra Road, Dublin 7 on March 12th, 2018 and a further €300 from the same store on April 10th, 2018.

He came forward on further signed pleas of guilty to robbing €200 from Centz shop on North Circular Road on March 14th, 2018 and attempted robbery, threats to kill and producing an article at Spar, Harts Corner, Dublin 9, on April 10th, 2018.

Garda Deirdre Gill told Monika Leech BL, prosecuting, that Gray committed the second Tan Me robbery 10 minutes after the failed Spar raid on April 10th.

Garda Gill and Det Garda Burke both agreed with Karl Monaghan BL, defending, that his client made no attempt to conceal his face in any of the CCTV footage obtained from the shops.

They accepted that Gray had a drug addiction and was robbing to feed his habit.

The court heard Gray has 69 previous convictions, including 21 robberies, four burglaries and public order offences.

Mr Monaghan submitted to JudgePatricia Ryan that his client had had a difficult upbringing and was in a vicious circle of homelessness, drug abuse and criminality to fund his addiction.

He said though his client had become institutionalised, he did aspire to employment and wished to get onto residential treatment for his drug problem.

Judge Ryan put the matter back until late November.

China and Japan reset strained relationship with new deals

Shinzo Abe hails agreements as ‘historic turning point’ on rare official visit to Beijing

Beijing and Tokyo reset their troubled bilateral relationship on Friday asShinzo Abe concluded a range of agreements on his first official visit to the Chinese capital since becoming Japanese prime minister for a second time in 2012.

The agreements – ranging from a three-year, $30 billion credit swap agreement between the two countries’ central banks to co-operation on overseas development projects – are the most substantive reached between the world’s second- and third-largest economies since 2011.

Mr Abe hailed the agreements as the start of a “historic turning point”. Li Keqiang, who in May made his first visit to Japan since becoming premier in 2013, said China was willing to “return to a normal track” with Japan. He also urged Mr Abe to help Beijing “safeguard” global trade and economic growth and said China would not devalue its currency to boost exports.

The renminbi is threatening to fall through 7 to the dollar, which would be its lowest level in a decade. But Chinese officials and most analysts say that Beijing has been working to support the currency, not weaken it, in order to reduce trade frictions with the US and guard against capital flight.

Bilateral relations between Japan and China were effectively frozen in 2012-13 after the Japanese government purchased the Senkaku Islands, known in China as the Diaoyutai and claimed by Beijing, from their private owner to head off a counterbid by the then-nationalist governor of Tokyo.

Large-scale protests across China intimidated many Japanese companies, which scaled back their investment plans. “The situation in 2012 influenced Japanese investment decisions,” a Japanese diplomat said on the eve of Mr Abe’s three-day visit, which began on Thursday. “[But] we are neighbours and our two economies are interdependent.”

Repairing relations

The two governments began to re-engage in late 2014, when Mr Abe held a brief meeting with Chinese president Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation leaders’ summit in Beijing. But it was only over the past two years, as Chinese economic growth began to slow and US president Donald Trump launched a trade war against Beijing, that Mr Xi accelerated efforts to repair relations

“Strategic confrontation still exists between Japan and China but it is under better control compared to 2014,” said Shi Yinhong, professor of international relations at Renmin University in Beijing.

In addition to Mr Abe’s meetings with Mr Xi and Mr Li, this week’s flurry of diplomatic activity included a “third country co-operation forum”, bringing together hundreds of Japanese and Chinese corporate executives.

The forum is aimed at finding areas in which Japanese and Chinese companies can co-operate with each other, rather than compete, for example on rail projects in southeast Asia. Japanese officials see such co-operation as one way of blunting the impact of Mr Xi’s Belt and Road Initiative, which has encouraged large overseas infrastructure investments by Chinese state-owned enterprises.

But they have stopped short of formally endorsing the BRI programme or joining the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, China’s flagship development bank.

“We have emphasised the importance of respecting international standards,” said the Japanese diplomat. “We do not want to see recipient [countries] accumulate massive debts or their economies suffer.”

Mr Abe’s visit was timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Deng Xiaoping’s first and only visit to Japan as paramount leader in October 1978, shortly before he officially launched his economic “reform and opening” programme. – Copyright The Financial Times Limited 2018

Where Is Khashoggi's Body?: Turkey's Erdogan Asks Saudi Arabia

Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi praised Canada for “raising the flag” on human rights in an interview with Global News’ Jeff Semple just months before he was killed.

Khashoggi, an outspoken critic of the Saudi royal family, was killed inside the Kingdom’s consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2. Officials have admitted it was a “premeditated” attack.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey had more information on Khashoggi's case than it shared so far

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan urged Saudi Arabia on Friday to disclose who gave the order to kill journalist Jamal Khashoggi, as well the location of his body, saying Turkey had more information about the case than it has shared so far.

Erdogan also said Riyadh needed to reveal the identity of the "local cooperator" who Saudi officials earlier said had taken Khashoggi's body from Saudi agents after the journalist was killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2.

Saudi Arabia said on Thursday the killing of Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist and a critic of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was premeditated, reversing previous statements that it was unintended.

Khashoggi's murder has sparked global outrage and mushroomed into a crisis for the world's top oil exporting country and Prince Mohammed, the kingdom's de facto ruler.

"Who gave this order?" Erdogan said in a speech to members of his AK Party in Ankara. "Who gave the order for 15 people to come to Turkey?" he said, referring to a 15-man Saudi security team Turkey has said flew into Istanbul hours before the killing. Erdogan also said Saudi's public prosecutor was due to meet the Istanbul prosecutor in Istanbul on Sunday.

Saudi officials initially denied having anything to do with Khashoggi's disappearance after he entered the consulate, before changing the official account to say an internal investigation suggested he was accidentally killed in a botched operation to return him to the kingdom.

On Thursday, Saudi state TV quoted the Saudi public prosecutor as saying the killing had been planned, and that prosecutors were interrogating suspects on the basis of information provided by a joint Saudi-Turkish task force.

Gen . TY Danjuma explodes

Gen . TY Danjuma explodes

Retired Lt. Gen. Theophilous Danjuma yesterday asked the people of Middle-Belt, South-West, South-South & South-East to forget all about 2019 Elections but to first fight back the Fulani murderous invaders and reclaim their lands which are now under Fulani occupation.

General Danjuma stated unambiguously that President Buhari is the direct founder and sponsor of Miyetti Allah and had concluded plans to provide safe heavens for all West African Fulanis in the entire SOUTH and the MIDDLE BELT. He made it clear that War had already been declared, going by the spate of relentless killings here and there, lamenting that helpless victims are predominantly Christians.

The retired General warned that Buhari has used Tinubu to divide South-West and that plans are underway to overrun Yoruba Kingdom and make them subordinate to Hausa-Fulani Oligarchy.

He equally lamented that from secrets file obtained, the conquest of Yoruba would commence as soon as they are through with Middle-Belt reqions. And that soonest they take hostage of Yoruba, their brothers from Sudan, Guinea, and other West African descent would combine to fight South-East and South-South.

Danjuma regretted that while the rest of Middle Belt and South are under invasion led by Army Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Buratai, our politicians are playing to the gallery, giving Buhari all necessary supports.

Danjuma opined that at present the Presidency has been taken over by Miyetti Allah and has vowed to retain Buhari in power even if it means shedding the blood of any opposition. Stating that should the people fail to rise now and put an end to this, either you are a moslem after 2019 or in Exile.

Note:
War has been going on in Taraba and parts of Jigawa States and hundreds are killed daily. In Kaduna few days ago more that 220 persons were killed by foreign mercinaries imported by Buhari's Fulanis.

Things to avoid doing right after waking up - Health

After seven hours of sleep, your body is utterly dehydrated and this is the time when you need to go for some water and not crash on your caffeine.

Adequate hydration helps with the better functioning of your body. You’ll also be able to think better and be more awake.
If you think raising up with a coffee in hand and checking out your mails simultaneously is your way of healthy living, then you’re wrong.

There are certain habits that you need to avoid as soon as you wake up. By tweaking certain routine habits of yours, you can actually put an end to the wrong lifestyle habits that you have been following as soon as you wake up.

It’s high time to eliminate those bad habits and start doing things that are for your mind, body, and soul, as these can help you be more productive for the day.
Here are some things to avoid doing right after waking up.

Things that avoid doing right after waking up are:

1.Do Not Exercise Immediately After Waking Up: By rolling out of your bed and immediately starting your workout, you are doing more harm to your body than good. It was found that having something before hitting the gym helps in giving the brain the carbs that are necessary to power a solid workout.

2.You Skip Breakfast: You might have heard of this a 100 times, but breakfast is really the most important meal of a day. Skipping your morning meals can lead to several other health-related problems that can be avoided by sticking to regularly consuming it. This is one of the top health mistakes you make in the morning.

3.You Don’t Eat Protein: To your breakfast, remember to add some protein as well. This helps in maintaining the lean muscle mass and also distributes the protein throughout the day.

4.You Don’t Stretch After Waking Up: After you wake up, it is recommended to stretch right on your bed. Stretching out helps in limbering up the muscles and also in relaxing your muscles.

5.You Don’t Keep Yourself Hydrated: Once you’re out of bed, you need to immediately grab a bottle of water. Hydration is something that you’re deprived of for the past 7-8 hours. Hence, water is necessary to expel the accumulated toxins and also flush out the liver. Not drinking water is one of the top morning mistakes that you need to avoid.

6.You Drink Coffee Immediately: It was found that the body produces high amounts of stress hormone cortisol between 8 AM and 9 AM, as per a study. By drinking coffee around this time, it will force your body to produce more of cortisol in the morning. This hormone helps you stay active and energized throughout the day; however, leaves you completely stressed out by night.

7.Don’t Prepare Your Day In Dark: The body’s internal clock is said to be very sensitive to light. Hence, getting ready in the dark will send a signal to the body that it’s still night time. This will make you feel groggy and will not make you feel energized for the rest of the day. This is one of the morning mistakes you have got to avoid.

These are the things to avoid doing right after waking up.

I can not speak for anyone else but myself...

A warning to whosoever is behind this falsehood, peddling all these malicious rumours, I would advice you to stop.

There are things I wouldn't take likely especially now as a mom.

I do not want to be roped in with the names of people who do this(Sleep with pastor) scandalous act...

I Go to church to serve my God and could care less about anyone else. Going to church is an avenue where I contact with my creator and not do otherwise...

I am a Christian, I am GROWING each day in GODS VINE yard but I wouldn't sit and watch my good name go up in flames over a malicious EVIL story...

INEC Presents Certificates To 23 New Political Parties

Presenting the certificates to Chairmen of the political parties on Thursday, the INEC Chairman said the commission would restrategise with security agencies for more robust response regarding the arrest and prosecution of vote buyers.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented certificates of registration to the 23 newly registered political parties in Abuja.

Presenting the certificates to Chairmen of the political parties on Thursday, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the commission, said the commission would restrategise with security agencies for more robust response regarding the arrest and prosecution of vote buyers.

He added that vote buying is a cancer to the electoral process, and there is need to work together to address it.

"The commission is deeply worried about our elections, particularly the way it has become increasingly monetised. Vote buying is a cancer to our electoral process and we must work together collectively to stamp it out," he stated.

He said there would be no room for voters to expose their marked  ballot papers between the voting cubicles and ballot boxes, adding that the commission will engage all well-meaning groups for more effective voter education.

Mahmood said the commission received 144 applications from the associations seeking registration as political parties.

He said: "I wish to congratulate the chairmen of the new political parties for meeting the criteria enshrined in the Constitution for registration as political parties. As from today, you are recognised as political parties under the law. From today, you also have equal status with any political party in Nigeria. This means that you can sponsor candidates for elections, including the 2019 general election."

He told the parties that they have an obligation to respect their Constitution, as well as abide by INEC guidelines and regulations.  He urged them to make a difference in politics with elective representation by conducting open, transparent, inclusive and peaceful primaries for the nomination of credible candidates for the elections.

"By doing so, you will give Nigerians better choice, thereby adding value to our democracy, in strengthening the quality of elective representation,” he stated.

Yakubu pointed out that activities for the 2019 elections would commence on Friday August 17, 2018 with the publication of a notice of call, adding that the commission had concluded arrangements in all INEC offices nationwide for the exercise.

The conduct of party primaries will begin from Saturday, August 18, 2018 and will end on October 7, 2018.

Responding on behalf of the chairmen of the new political parties, Omoyele Sowore, Presidential Aspirant under the African Action Congress (AAC), commended INEC for the registration, and stated that Nigerians needed their cooperation most at this time to defeat the old order in the politics of the country.

Minimum Wage: Governors Say They Can’t Perform Magic

Speaking on behalf of the Governors, Abdul'aziz Yari said: “I don’t think you people voted us only to pay salaries. You are looking for good roads, electricity, education and others. So, we can’t do magic. It’s only when we have the funds that we can do all those things."

Governors under the umbrella of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) have said they cannot “perform magic” as regards the implementation of new minimum wage

Responding to queries on the new minimum wage implementation, the Governors said they were not voted into power to pay salaries alone, stating that they also had the responsibility to provide necessary social amenities for their states.

Chairman of the Forum, Governor Abdul'aziz Yari of Zamfara State, stated this after a meeting with his colleagues on Wednesday night.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is proposing a minimum wage of N65,000 for workers.

Yari said it was regrettable that states governments had been limited to only paying salaries, while other sectors such as health, electricity, education, among others, were not given the same attention.

“I don’t think you people voted us only to pay salaries. You are looking for good roads, electricity, education and others. So, we can’t do magic. It’s only when we have the funds that we can do all those things,” he said.

Yari further disclosed that the decision of the governors regarding the minimum wage is dependent on the outcome of meeting between their six-man representative and the committee headed by the Minister of Labour.

“We have a committee of six, which represented us in discussions with the committee headed by the Labour Minister; the committee is yet to give us the final report. When they give us the final report, for which they have our mandate to present our position and the position most likely is to look at the record of up to 14 years,” he said.

We’re Monitoring Situation In Nigeria, Says UK Government

The United Kingdom has said it is “monitoring the situation and other political development in Nigeria,” following the blockage of the National Assembly by officers of the Department of State Services (DSS).

In a statement issued by Joe Abuku, spokesperson for the UK Embassy, on Tuesday, the UK government said it would only support democratic process in Nigeria.

“We are aware of media reports of a situation at the National Assembly this morning. We are closely monitoring the situation and other political developments in Nigeria.

“The United Kingdom supports a process whereby the people of Nigeria can exercise their democratic right to vote and be voted for. We favour a free, fair, credible and peaceful process and the independence of institutions, which allow for that.”

Some DSS officials on Tuesday barricaded entrance into the National Assembly.

The operatives, according to Rafiu Ibrahim, a Senator representing Kwara South senatorial district, said the order to restrict lawmakers into their offices came “from the above.”

However, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo said the siege at the National Assembly was unauthorised shortly after he sacked the Director General of the DSS, Lawal Daura.

Daura is from the same Local Government Area as President Muhammadu Buhari, who was reported to have approved his (Daura) sack.

Meeting Of National Assembly Leadership Called Off 'Due To Tense Atmosphere'

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, has said the meeting of the National Assembly leadership earlier scheduled has been called off due to the tense atmosphere at National Assembly.

He disclosed this to the journalists on his way out of the complex.

Yusuf, said he was not aware of the impeachment plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers, especially as there must be two-third majority before the impeachment could sail through.

Speaking on the lawmakers who vowed to stay put at the entrance of the chamber, Lasun said they were entitled to their decision.

It was gathered that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, had directed his men not to be involved in the siege, noting that there was no threat to security at the National Assembly.
